As is well known, following the forced suspension of the operation of all the Educational Institutions of the country proactively due to the pandemic of coronavirus, the College proceeded to offer the theoretical lessons of all its Programmes of Study through online electronic platform.
Almost all students participated in the lessons. The task was not easy at all. However, following quick decisions made by the College's Management, the immediate assurance of all the necessary means, the excellent cooperation of students and the teaching and administrative staff, we have managed at this time to fill with high quality standards and safely, the small gap created by the initial loss of teaching time.
Subsequently, the mid-term distance exams were organized, in which a large majority of students participated again. Thus, the teaching pending issues at the moment exist only for the practical/laboratory courses and a few other courses, which by their very nature could not be offered remotely.
These lessons will be completed in their entirety with the physical presence of students in the College and under special measures to protect the health of all. A notice will be issued at a later date.
The final Exams in the lessons, which have been offered remotely, except for a few exceptions (announcement will be sent later to the affected students), will be offered remotely on the basis of a defined procedure, which is in accordance with the instructions of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) and after the relevant approval received by the College
The Online Final exams begin on Thursday 14 May 2020 and will last until the first fortnight of June 2020.
We wish all our Students, Good Reading and Good Luck in their Final Exams.
KES College, responding directly to the challenges and new conditions created by the coronavirus pandemic, has changed the way of teaching with the introduction of distance e-learning with the primary aim of continuing and completing the studies of its students.
Distance e-learning has now become absolutely necessary for the continuation of the operation of KES College, due to recent drastic preventive measures (including the suspension of the attendance of students with physical presence) taken by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to limit the transmission of COVID-19 coronavirus.
In the framework of the continuous training and development of its staff, KES College informs that it has successfully implemented three Single-Company Programs entitled "TEACHERS TRAINING IN E-LEARNING AND MIXED LEARNING".
These programs were carried out from 22/4/2020 until 4/5/2020 and have been approved by the Human Resources Development Authority of Cyprus.
Most of the above Programs were taught by the distinguished educator Mrs. Charoula Angeli, Ph.D. Professor of Instructional Technology, Department of Education and Director of the Centre of Teaching and Learning at the University of Cyprus.
Part of the above Programs was also taught by the Educational Officer of KES College, Mrs. Elena Anastasiou, Ph.D.
In these programs participated Teachers, Vocational Training Instructors and Managers of KES College.
During the Programs, special emphasis was placed on the effective use and evaluation of the usefulness of the various electronic and asynchronous learning platforms, such as MS Teams, Zoom, Moodle etc. In addition, participants had the opportunity to train in the use of other tools such as kahoot for the preparation of quizzes/exams as well as ezTalks for the creation of webinars etc.
All participants were fully satisfied and it is certain these Programmes will assist them in the more efficient performance of their duties.
All participants in the above Programs will be given a Certificate of Attendance by KES College.
The College's Management expresses special thanks to Dr. Charoula Angeli for her collaboration with KES College as well as Dr. Elena Anastasiou for their contribution to the success of the above Programs.
Furthermore, the College's Management expresses warm thanks to the HRDA Officers for their excellent cooperation and at the same time congratulates the HRDA's Directorate for its immediate, positive and meaningful response in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Recent announcements of preventive measures aimed at limiting the transmission of COVID-19, make our College’s transition to distance learning imperative under the circumstances.
The Management of the College in cooperation with the Coordinators and Assistants of the Programmes of Study as well as with the important contribution of the Officers of the Student Affairs and Welfare Services Department of our College, after painful and intensive efforts, in compliance with the State's suggestions, are pleased to inform that KES College is ready to proceed with distance learning and the continuation of the studies of its students.
The following information was sent to all students to ensure a smooth and coordinated transition to online teaching:
Regular Courses (lectures, presentations, etc.):
The start date of the online Classes was set for Monday, 23 March 2020.
The time schedules of all Classes for the Courses to be offered remotely have been posted in time (since 20.03.2020) to all students and their teachers.
The teaching of online classes will be carried out according to the existing timetable (day and time of lesson), in order to avoid any conflicts.
Online lectures will be made through the Microsoft Teams online platform and the way in which it is accessed and used, is described in the relevant instructions for use sent to all students (“Quick Guide on MS Teams for Students - KES College”). Related email with username and password along with link to their access to the platform was sent separately.
The online lectures will be recorded in accordance with the instructions of the The Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA). Each class will normally be conducted by the teachers and the students' attendances will be recorded by the system (point 6 below). Video-recorded lectures, as well as the course material, will remain available to students.
It is pointed out that the continuous electronic communication of students where needed will be possible through communication:
- with teachers on issues related to the attendance of the course, and
- with the officials of the Student Affairs and Welfare Services for assistance in technical difficulties encountered in the electronic platform.
It is understood that, as in conventional education, it is the responsibility of the students to attend the classes and the system will record their presence in each lecture/class.
Courses with Special Features and Other Activities (laboratory courses, workshops, internship etc.)
Various:
Although we are not in a position to know what the developments will be, however, we believe that with our transition to online education, we will be able to hopefully complete the current episodic semester/academic year without any loss.
The Directorate warmly thanks all KES College officials who have helped in any way that the College, in a short time through its updated online platform and the additional Microsoft Teams e-learning platform, is prepared and able to offer immediately and effectively all theoretical courses to its students.
In order to cover the lost teaching time due to the pandemic, the Directorate decided that the Easter holidays this year will be shorter, namely, from April 16, 2020 (Holy Thursday) until April 21, 2020 (Easter Tuesday).
During the remaining days all theoretical classes will be conducted regularly online according to the program.
Good Luck and Strength to all!
On behalf of the Directorate.
