KES College since 1999, has been a pioneer for 24 years and provides the labour market of Cyprus with well-trained Medical Representatives, offering the Diploma and the Higher Diploma of Medical Representatives, with high level education. The new Programme of Study “Medical Representatives Management” is the first and only Interdisciplinary Four-Year Programme, at a Bachelor level, offered in Higher Education in Cyprus, but also in Europe in general, combining Pharmaceutical Scientific Detailing and Management Skills. The Programme mainly includes courses from the field of Business Administration and Organization and the field of Pharmaceutical Science.

Graduates have the right to register in the Record of Medical Representatives to legally practise the profession of Medical Representative in Cyprus, in accordance with the applicable law and they are suitable for staffing senior positions of Management and Coordination of Medical Representative teams in Pharmaceutical Companies.

Human Anatomy

In-depth understanding of the structure of the human body and familiarity with the main bones of the skeletal system as well as with the anatomical spaces of the body. The course focuses on the concepts of the cell, tissue, organs and systems, joints and bones of the human body.

General and Inorganic Chemistry

The acquisition and consolidation of basic knowledge of General and Inorganic Chemistry, such as the properties of water and the various chemical elements of the periodic table, electronic theory, various solutions and the theoretical background of molecules and molecular bonds. The course is accompanied by laboratory exercises to better understand the theory, offering familiarity with the techniques and applications in basic exercises in general and inorganic chemistry.

Cell – Biology and Development

Students know the basic aspects of cell biology to understand the structure and function of the cell. Emphasis is placed on the organic structure of the cell as well as biomolecules (proteins, polysaccharides, lipids and nucleic acids). The course is accompanied by laboratory exercises, focusing on the understanding of various biomolecules, such as DNA and RNA, the study of cell populations and bacterial cultures.

Introduction to Economics

Introducing students to the science of Economics, through the basic principles and the way economics works. Emphasis is placed on the theory of microeconomics, the study and comparison of current economic events and the corresponding decisions. It also deals with concepts such as economic problems, supply and demand, price formation, consumer choice theory, cost behavior, market forms, competition and monopoly.

Principles of Marketing

Students understand the theory and practical application of various modern principles of customer-centric marketing in the competitive business environment. They also get familiar with the marketing terminology, methods, trends and concepts, as well as with modern principles and theories of the industry, but also with their application in the professional field.

General English

The acquisition of knowledge of the English language and the development of skills for its use in oral and written speech, based on the necessity of the use of the English language in the exercise of the profession of the Medical Representative. The basic grammatical and syntactic rules of the language are learned, as well as the basic English vocabulary, at Intermediate level.

Physiology I

Students acquire knowledge and skills necessary to understand the normal processes of the human body, but also the normal functions of cells, organs and major human systems. The course focuses on the main elements of the physiology of the circulatory, digestive, lymphatic and respiratory systems of the human body. The course is accompanied by laboratory exercises, which aim to familiarize students with the various systems of the human body.

Organic Chemistry

Students are taught the basic knowledge of organic chemistry, which is utilized in the profession of a Medical Representative. Students get acquainted with the main characteristics of the carbon atom and organic compounds, know the names and properties of the various categories of organic compounds and emphasize the importance of organic chemistry and its relationship to pharmaceutical science.

Introduction to Microbiology    

The introduction of students to the basic principles of microbiology, through the understanding of the structure, physiology and classification of microorganisms, the use of the microscope and the various stains in microbiology, but also the various diseases of pathogenic microorganisms. The course is accompanied by laboratory exercises to consolidate the theory, using microscopic observation and commentary of various microorganisms.

Basic Principles of Management              

Students are introduced to the basic concepts of the Management science, including management controls, basic decision making principles and planning. Emphasis is placed on the administrative process in a company, the organizational structure and various techniques, offering students the first acquaintance with their future role as Managers in a Pharmaceutical Company.

Greek and English Medical Terminology

Learning of Greek and English medical terminology and the development of skills for their use in both oral and written speech. Students become familiar with medical terminology, the scientific vocabulary of the human body, and the pathology of common diseases.

Elements of Biochemistry

Introduction to the concept of Biochemistry and familiarity with recognizing the structure and function of various biological molecules, such as proteins, amino acids, enzymes and nucleic acids. The course is accompanied by classic Biochemistry laboratory exercises, such as the quantification of proteins, lipids and carbohydrates, the study of kinetic enzyme reactions and nucleic acid electrophoresis.

Introduction to Statistics / Biostatistics

Students are introduced to the basic principles and parameters of statistical science, and their application to health science research, including basic statistical significance tests, their interpretation, and their basic applications.

Physiology IΙ

Following the course Physiology I, the course Physiology II focuses on the main elements of physiology of the lymphatic, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, urinary and reproductive systems of the human body. Reference is also made to the concept of metabolism and the physiology of the human sensory organs. This course is also accompanied by laboratory exercises through interactive exercises, simulations and microscopic observation laboratories.

Chemistry of Pharmaceutical and Natural Products

Learning the basic chemical characteristics of various natural products used in pharmaceutical science, through the understanding of the characteristic compounds of the chemical groups in these products, the main properties and characteristics of trace elements, antibiotics, alkaloids, vitamins and many more.

Pharmacology Ι

Introduction to the science of Pharmacology, familiarity with the various categories of drugs and their action mechanism. The course Pharmacology I focuses on drugs used to treat inflammation, pain and major diseases of the nervous, circulatory (cardiovascular), digestive and respiratory systems. The course is accompanied by laboratory exercises focusing on the cardiovascular system and more specifically the mechanisms of blood clotting and human platelets.

Consumer Behaviour

Students become familiar with the concepts, principles and theories from various behavioral sciences. The aim is to understand the terminology, methods, trends and concepts of Consumer Behavior, as they are applied in international and domestic Marketing. The knowledge and application of ways and methods of customer satisfaction and retention, through the study of their behaviour, have a major role in the field of Medical Representative Management.

Elements of Pharmaceutical Technology              

The course focus in the field of Pharmaceutical Technology, through the understanding of the basic principles and methods of preparation and characterization of pharmaceutical formulations and their ingredients. Students get familiar with the various categories of dosage forms, the various formulations, the routes of administration and the basic pharmaceutical equipment. The course is accompanied by laboratory exercises in Pharmaceutical Technology, including the preparation of many formulations, such as oral solutions and powders, suppositories, tablets, gels and more.

Medical Devices

The learning of the basic and most well-known medical devices, the various categorizations, their mode of operation and the provisions of the current legislation.

Basic Principles of Accounting

The introduction of students to the basic principles of Accounting and its various applications, such as accounting, opening accounts, balance sheet, use of spreadsheets and general preparation of financial / commercial statements.

Principles of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics  

Students become familiar with the principles of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics and deepen into the main parameters involved in the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drugs, in terms of bioavailability, dosage regimen and route of administration. Furthermore, bioequivalence studies of generic medicinal products are being taught.

Pharmacology ΙI              

Following the course Pharmacology I, the course Pharmacology II deepens the knowledge about the various categories and actions of drugs used to manage inflammation, pain, underlying diseases of the nervous, cardiovascular, digestive and respiratory systems. The course is also accompanied by laboratory exercises.

Pharmaceutical Marketing

The application of Marketing principles adapted to the field of the Pharmaceutical industry, through the acquaintance with the peculiarities of the pharmaceutical market and the strategies followed for the prescription of pharmaceutical products.

Public Relations              

Introduction of students in the field of public relations, based on the understanding of the concepts of human relations, advertising, marketing and propaganda. Students become familiar with the role of public relations in the profession of Medical Representative, but also the organization of public relations in the role of a Manager in a business environment.

Nosology

Learning the main diseases that are most common in humans, in relation to specific systems or organs, their clinical symptoms and the related extensions for their prevention and treatment, combining pharmacological knowledge.

Medical – Scientific Publications              

Students gain the ability to read, to understand in depth, but also to explain medical and scientific publications, through the identification of the most important information that can be extracted and the knowledge of the processes that mediate from the research to the final publication of a study.

Domestic Pharmaceutical Formulations

The deepening in the domestic formulation, through the acquaintance with the domestic pharmaceutical preparations, from their brand name, their active substance, the category to which they belong up to their uses.

Elements of Biotechnology

The introduction to the concepts of Biotechnology, its modern achievements and its recent applications. Students become familiar with the main methods used, the concept of cloning and the various experimental approaches to biotechnological drug production.

Toxicology

The modern approach to toxicology regarding the classification, mechanism of action, identification, treatment and epidemiology of the most important poisons of chemical, biological and radioactive origin.

Costing

Gaining the necessary knowledge and developing skills around the effective planning of business activities, determining and controlling costs, determining the selling price, cost matching income and providing the basics of a company’s operating policy.

Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials

The introduction to the safety of pharmaceuticals and to pharmacovigilance and to the necessity of the existence of this sector for the safe distribution of drugs. The course also deepens into the design and regulatory requirements for conducting clinical trials.

Introduction to Public Health-GeSy

The acquaintance of the students with the good operation of Public Health and its corresponding problems, with the guidance from the regulatory bodies and with the respective legislative framework. The course also describes the operating rules of the General Health System (ΓεΣΥ) in Cyprus.

Development of Personal Skills                

Students develop personal skills, such as self-management, conflict resolution techniques, communication and teamwork, with the goal of drawing up a Personal Development Plan, identifying their personal strengths and areas of development.

Entrepreneurship           

The course introduces the concept of entrepreneurship, through learning the right way of thinking, market research methods and tools, business plans and development strategies.

Methodology of Research in Health Sciences

The introduction of students to the research methodology, from the identification of the research question to the processing of the research methodology, the analysis and processing of the results. At this stage, students are invited to choose the topic of their Thesis for the next two semesters.

Introduction to Nutrition

The introduction to the concept of the needs of the human body in nutrients, the concept of energy balance and the problems that can arise from the lack of essential components of good nutrition. nutritional supplements are also being deepened.

Professional Communication

Students learn and practice in depth through the process of the Medical Representative visiting a health Professional (e.g. doctor). The preparation of the visit, the visit itself and the actions that take place after the visit are covered, so that students are able to apply the best practices themselves and of course to teach as Medical Representatives Managers.

International Business

Understanding the business context on an international basis drawing on international business theory and practice and international management practices and strategies.

Pharmacy Law  

The basic knowledge of the most important legal regulations concerning pharmaceutical and medical practice. The course makes the first contact with the legal and judicial authorities of the Republic of Cyprus as well as the European Union, but also of international organizations dealing with issues related to health. In addition, the course deals with issues of Bioethics and the General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR).

Practical Training

The practical training of students to apply the knowledge and skills, developed in their current studies, in the subject of Medical Representative Management, in Pharmaceutical Companies, Pharmaceutical Industries or Companies of Medical Devices or Cosmetics, but also various helath organizations.

Marketing Research

Learning the necessity of Marketing research through the techniques of its preparation and conduct, for data collection, creation of plans and the use of various research tools.

Human Resources Management              

The introduction of students to the basic principles of human resource management in an organization / company, in order to achieve excellent management and staff relationships in the workplace, through compliance with fundamental employment laws and addressing business challenges.

Integrated Marketing Communication  

The understanding how to develop and implement “integrated marketing communication” programs, how to successfully manage a project, how to develop a thriving customer relationship, and how to sell ideas to a business.

Pharmacoeconomics     

The course deals with the application of economic parameters in the field of health and medicine, the cost of preparation of drugs and the cost of the treatment for a disease, through the various data of pharmacoeconomic studies.

Specialized Pharmacology: Formulary

The familiarity of the most commonly prescribed medicinal products and their various categorizations, through the understanding of the use of pharmaceutical reference bookσ, such as BNF and other medical guides. In addition, the course deals with the treatment of poisoning and drugs for the treatment of obesity, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction and anti-cancer.

Thesis I

The preparation of the students’ dissertation in a specialized subject. The student chooses the type of dissertation and the scientific area, with a specific Supervising Professor. At the end of the course, the student submits a progress report of 3-4 pages that will include the research questions, the methodology and the basic description of the Introduction section.

e – Marketing

The acquaintance with the e-marketing and the e-consumer population, with the aim of the strategic improvement of the e-business.

Project Management

Introduction to the management of procedures for the successful undertaking of a project in terms of planning, organization, management and control of resources, in order to achieve a defined set of objectives.

Operations Management            

The introduction of students in the concepts of Operations Management as well as the administrative procedures that lead to operational results, regarding the production and the provision of services to organizations.

Thesis II               

The writing and completion of the students’ dissertation, which includes at least ten thousand (10,000) words. Students will have to present a final short oral presentation on their dissertation, in front of the Three-Member Evaluation Committee of their Thesis.

Bioinformatics

The elective course Bioinformatics offers the familiarization of students with various Bioinformatics tools and the use of the most common databases, for the analysis and synthesis of data and information. The course is combined with practical training in the main databases and Bioinformatics tools.

Introduction to Competition Law

The elective course Introduction to Competition Law offers an understanding of the basic principles of competition law and their application in today’s global pharmaceutical economy.

Biotechnological Products Sale Consulting

The understanding of the biotechnological products and the technologies used, but also of their presence in the modern pharmaceutical market. Students are asked to understand the specificity of these products and to develop specialized presentation techniques.

Parapharmaceudical Products  

Students deepen into the formulas, manufacture, maintenance, distribution, use and properties of the cosmetics as well as of a wide range of parapharmaceutical products, as well as Homeopathy products.

Short CV: Mr Agis Charalambous is a Lecturer at KES College since 2021. He holds a Master’s degree (LLM) in Medical Law & Ethics and a Bachelor’s degree (LLB) in Law, from Birmingham City University. Mr Charalambous works at the litigation department of the law offices of Michael Kyprianou & Co LLC as a Lawyer and his practice encompasses civil and criminal disputes. He is also heading the Intellectual property department of the firm. Mr Charalambous has attended several training seminars related to medical negligence and intellectual property in Cyprus and abroad (Austria, France, Greece). In addition, Mr Charalambous is an accredited mediator. He teaches subjects related to his expertise.

Short CV: Mr Demetris Demetriou is a Lecturer at KES College since 2015. He is in possession of a Post Graduate Degree in Εducational Leadership and Politics from Cyprus Open University and a Degree (BSc) in Accounting and Finance from University of North Texas. He is an Accounting Lecturer in numerous educational institutions from 1992. Moreover he worked as an Auditor from 1988 to 1991 acquiring significant experience on issues related to his profession. He also participated in numerous seminars whereby, he had the opportunity to enrich his knowledge and improve his skills. He is accredited by the Human Resource Development Authority as an internal trainer.

Short CV: Dr Nicos Georgiou is a Senior Lecturer at KES College since 2009. He has a Doctorate Degree in Psychology, a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology, a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing. Mr Georgiou has ample research activity having assumed the role of assistant researcher in a number of programs from 2005 to date. He has ample teaching experience in the field of psychology and has worked for the Public Service and the State Prison as a Psychologist. During his career he has given a number of presentations on several topics related to his profession and has also published several articles.

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Dr. Louca Maria, is a Senior Lecturer at KES COLLEGE since 2022. She holds a degree since 2015 in Biological Sciences, Excellent, 1st in the ranking of students. Since 2020, she holds a PhD about the involvement of proteins in the aggressiveness of glioblastoma, brain cancer, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing of the University of Cyprus. Dr. Louca holds scholarships for the completion of her doctoral studies and is active in research in the field of cancer and epigenetics. He has worked for 5 years as a teaching assistant in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Cyprus and 2 years as a teaching specialist in higher education. Dr. Louca has participated in scientific conferences in Cyprus and the Netherlands and has been awarded with the 1st prize for poster presentation. She has published scientific works from 2017 until today with over 210 scientific references (h-index 8). Also Dr. Louca is a Reviewer in a scientific journal. She teaches classes of her specialties.

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Mrs. Mikaella Mitsinga is a Lecturer at KES COLLEGE since the current academic year (2022). Since 2014, she holds a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Cancer Therapeutics at Barts Cancer Institute, one of the top cancer institutes in the UK and a CRUK centre of excellence. There, she completed a research project, investigating drug-resistant mesothelioma cell lines (ADI-PEG20 drug agent) (was in Phase II clinical trial). Part of the project published in Cell Reports in 2016. More recently, she completed Pharmacy Studies (BSc) in European University of Cyprus. There, she successfully completed a project reviewing data for breast cancer genetic alterations. Previously in 2013, she graduated from the University of Huddersfield in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with main academic disciplines in Organic Chemistry, Formulation and Pharmaceutics, Analytical Chemistry and Biochemistry. Since 2014, she was a Medical Representative and then promoted as a Medical Representatives Supervisor in a Pharmaceutical Company based in Nicosia. Currently, she is employed in a Pharmacy in Nicosia. She teaches classes of her specialties.

Androulla is the Program Coordinator for Medical Representatives Management (4 years, Bachelor), Medical Representatives (3 years, Higher Diploma and 2 years Diploma) and Pharmacy Assistant (Technician) (2 years, Diploma) and a Senior Lecturer at KES College, since 2020. Dr. Miliotou holds a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology and a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Molecular Diagnosis, at the School of Pharmacy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has also a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology, at the University of Thessaly. She has contributed to the co-assistance of teaching the Laboratories of Pharmacology I & II, for undergraduate students, while she has trained a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Laboratory of Pharmacology, Department of Pharmacy, University of Thessaloniki. In addition, she has worked from 2017-2019 in the private sector, in Institutes of Vocational Training (IEK) and has taught a variety of courses in most Vocational Programmes in the field of Health Studies.Dr. Miliotou has received scholarships for her doctoral studies and is an active researcher in the field of Pharmacology and Biotechnology. Dr. Miliotou has also written chapters in five scientific books and has participated in scientific conferences in Greece, Germany, and U.S.A, with oral presentations and scientific posters.
