The Beauty Therapy industry in Cyprus, Europe and the rest of the world is experiencing a lasting and explosive development and therefore there are many opportunities for employment in this field. Anatomy

Is a thorough understanding of the construction of the human body and the knowledge of the structure of cells, tissues and organs and the anatomical relationship between them which will make the students capable to outline and understand the effects of aesthetic applications mainly to the supportive and muscular system.

Physiology

A thorough understanding of the physiological processes of the human body and the familiarization with the physiological functions of the cells, the organs and the main systems of human bodies, which will give the capability to the students to outline and understand the effects of beauty treatments to the person in relation to his/her physiology.

Dermatology

The students become aware of the complex structure of the skin and the functions performed by its various parts, they learn to recognize the basic lesions of the skin, so as to be able to distinguish where they should not interfere, which of them are contagious, and what precautions should be taken.

Principles of Physics

The students acquire basic knowledge of physics in topics such as heat, electricity and electromagnetism. Such knowledge will help them understand how the current and the radiation affects the human body, to choose and handle with safety the various specialized electrical machines and in the future to be able to monitor and understand the developments in their profession.

Face Morphology and Colour

The students understand the morphology of the face and improve the natural beauty or facial defects through the technique and harmony of the colours.

Principles of Chemistry

The students acquire basic knowledge of inorganic and organic chemistry in relation always with the sector of Beauty Therapy. The subject introduces the students to the world of chemistry and provides them with the essential knowledge so that they comprehend the chemistry of cosmetics.

Facial Aesthetics

The students get knowledge and skills which are essential for the facial care. Is help It helps the students to recognize skin diseases and disorders and apply the aesthetics methods for their successful management. The students will be able to use the electricity with safety and always take the appropriate precautions while applying electrical treatments for treating various skin problems.

Body Aesthetics

The students will get the knowledge in relation to the techniques and the therapeutic results of massage, for the improvement of the body and mind health and apply them in practice. They will learn to recognize the problematic area of the body, make  accurate  diagnosis and apply the appropriate electrical treatment of the body correctly and safely.

Depilatory Methods

The students will understand the structure and function of hair follicle and learn the correct procedure of depilation in order to treat unwanted hair growth.The course also includes the application of permanent depilation methods to treat excessive hair growth with the use of electric current.

Firs Aids

The students will get the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge of First Aid. Proper consolidation of this knowledge will make them capable of future application of this knowledge obtained, to think and act correctly in emergency situations to injuries or accidents.

Cosmetology

It aims to develop students’ knowledge of topics related to the types of the production, the maintenance, the circulation, and the use and the attributes of cosmetics. Besides, the subject has as aim the creation of basic dexterities that encompasses elementary laboratorial parameters that are related to the cosmetics preparations.

Basic Concepts and Applications of Computers

The students understand the main concepts of Information Technology and acquire knowledge and skills in using the basic functions of a Computer. Also, they gain the ability to use a word processing application, a spreadsheet application and understand the terms of using the nternet and the concepts of e-mail.

Make-Up

The students should know the make-up history, the products, make-up techniques and apply make-up according to the time, attire and occasion.

Manicure-Pedicure

Students acquire sufficient knowledge and practice, with the ultimate goal of the consolation of the subject in order to offer in the future proper nail services and nail extension which can meet any client needs and desires.

English Terminology

The students understand basic Aesthetics and Make-up topics in English Language and familiarize with its basic terminology.

Organization of Beauty Units

The students understand the way of organizing and operating Beauty Units and Wellness.

Hygiene

The course aims to understand the various infectious diseases that will make students able to recognize the clinical symptoms and other characteristic findings of the infectious diseases so as to take the appropriate precautions.

Nutrition – Dietetics

The aim of the subject is to provide students with knowledge and skills regarding nutritional needs and improve the quality of their daily life as well as adapting  healthy eating habits.

Aesthetic Gymnastics

The students understand the basic principles of aesthetics gymnastics and its importance, and they are able to use and recommend exercise programs that are applicable in the context of aesthetics as auxiliary means of implementation in practice of aesthetic programs.

Professional Ethics

The students understand the Principles and the Concepts of the Scientific and Professional Ethics, and by applying the ethical rules mechanisms they become capable of regulating their actions during the practice of their profession.

Aromatherapy

The students take a theoretical basis for the beneficial ingredients of essential oils and put in practice their therapeutic uses for the improvement of the health of the body and tranquility of the mind.

Project Writing

The course aims at the proper use and utilization of knowledge and skills related to the process of preparing a project, so that they will be able to apply the appropriate writing techniques of a topic that is directly related to Aesthetics topics. The Project is conducted during the fourth (4th) semester of studies and requires the  students’ effective focus at least for a regular semester of studies. The project is created and worked on in close co-operation and guidance of the student by the teacher of the subject.

Practical Training

Practical Training takes place formally during the fourth (4th) semester of studies and requires the students to have a minimum of five (5) teaching periods per week during the last semester of their studies in aesthetics in beauty salons. During his/her employment, the student is trained in practical applications in aesthetics. Practical training is done in close cooperation with the student’s guidance of a supervising member of the academic staff who teaches at the college and is appointed as the student’s counsellor.

Short CV: Ms Ioanna Farkonidou is a Lecturer in the Beauty Therapy Sector at KES College as of 2020. She holds an honors BSc Degree in Business Administration from the American University in Washington D.C. as a Fulbright Scholar. She was employed in the Banking Sector from 1994 until 2013 during which she became a fellow of the Institute of Bankers Diploma (England). She also holds an honors Bachelor’s degree in Beauty Therapy and Beauty Therapy Units Management (4 years), a Higher Diploma in Beauty Therapy (3 years) and a Diploma in Beauty Therapy (2 years), as well as Diploma qualifications in ITEC (England). She has participated in several Educational Seminars in the Beauty Sector both in Cyprus and abroad.

Short cv: Ms Markella Shiarly is a Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the following programs of study at KES College since 2010: Beauty Therapy Management of Beauty Therapy Units (4 Years, Bachelor) and Beauty Therapy (3 Years, Higher Diploma). Mrs Shiarly is a holder of a postgraduate qualification (MA) in Educational Science and Educational Leadership and a holder of a Degree in Beauty Therapy. She has participated in Seminars and Educational Programs, acquiring a number of Certifications in Beauty Therapy Methods such as Laser and IPL, Herbal Therapies, Spa Therapies, Professional Makeup and more, but also in Education as well as in Health and Safety. She has written a number of textbooks on Beauty Therapy that are used by students. She has also published articles in the press on Beauty Therapy and has significant teaching experience in Higher Education Institutions.

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Starting this current academic year, October 2022, Ms Skevi Skitsa is a Lecturer in Beauty Studies at KES COLLEGE. In 2018, she received her degree in Beauty Therapy and Beauty Therapy Units Management with an award of excellence. She worked as a spa therapist, from 2017 until 2018, at a spa centre which is part of a chain of spa centres in Cyprus. She has also worked as a beautician and an assistant at a Dermatology medical centre in Nicosia. Moreover, she has participated in various educational seminars regarding the area of beauty studies, both in Cyprus and abroad. She teaches subjects of her specialty.
